Thanks. I've been trying to get the system prefs proxy working for several hours today. At least knowing that it is broken will save me from wasting any more time. Frustrating, though.

We have much more work to do on OS X than either Windows or Unix. Many of the issues you cite are valid, and are what comes out of the fact that most of our development is done on Windows only. We will not ship a Mac 1.0 however until the windowing issues are fixed... this means that the Mac 1.0 release will probably lag the Windows/Unix release by one release cycle.

well, your article seems OK for someone how just care about nice buttons and fonts. If you care only in that, I really suggest you to keep using Safari and IE, and stop writting stupid articles about Firefox which is meant to be a powerful, fast, compatible, multiplataform browser.

Firefox was enthusiastically hyped on Public Radio's Morning Edition today. I made the mistake of getting the free download and trying it out.

It may work great on Windows, but it's useless on a Mac (I have a G4 running OSX 10.3.7). I could find no way of moving bookmarks from IE to FF (one of the most hyped features). The help features were singularly uninformative.

If ou are a mac user, I strongly recommend avoiding Firefox until it has improved the quality of the product.

Um... Safari flat out hangs on some script heavy sites (banking sites in particular). I've also found it VERY slow on Orbitz. Firefox is a bit uglier, but much more reliably useable.

Re importing IE favorites - hit apple-2 in IE. That brings up the IE favorites screen. File / Export... (to save as a file, say on your desktop).

Back to Firefox - Bookmarks / Manage Bookmarks...
Then File / Import. Voila. All your favorites are imported. It's easy!

I feel the pain regarding the proxy server settings as I'm a mobile user and this drives me nuts. However, it drives me nuts for one particular reason: it worked fine in the beta versions and then appears to have been lost from the full release.

Aside from the above I have very little problems with the browser (better than Safari for some sites) but stick with Safari so that I don't have to muck around manually changing my network settings. If they sort this problem out (and Safari RSS isn't really great) then I'd probably use Firefox much more.
