We Will Rock You
And they did.
Went to see We Will Rock You - the musical by Queen and Ben Elton last night and it was sensational. The songs fit into the story line brilliantly and the story itself was interesting and not just an excuse for singing the songs. The constant use of song references as bad puns just added to the experience for me and it was particularly impressive to see the customization for the Australian audience. The lead bohemian was titled after the great rock singer from the past “John Farnam” and when captured he was told - “This really is the last time”. That’s the kind of joke that flowed through the night and all of them went down extremely well.
The music itself was very loud and very energetic. Unless you are an absolute die-hard, noone can match Freddy Mercury type of person you’ll appreciate the vocal talent that performed the extremely difficult songs Queen put together.
Definitely worth seeing.

I agree 100% with “sensational”. I saw the show in Melbourne last year and in Sydney last night and it’s just brilliant!!
To Dave - You can purchase the soundtrack for the London performance of WWRY, but as yet an Australian version has not been recorded.. the London version is very good…but it just isnt the same :(

I saw the show in the Paris Hotel and it was amazing, unfortunatly they only had the London Recording, but it was the same lead guy, so he didn’t have that annoying accent. I saw it a month ago, and haven’t stopped listening to the soundtrack since.

I have now seen We Will Rock You 5 times!
The first time I saw We Will Rock You was while I was visiting relatives in London in 2003. (I had just broken my leg three days before mountain climbing in Scotland). Nothing was going to stop me from going to see the show for the first time. Because I couldn’t get up and down the stairs at the Dominion I was fortunate enough to be put in a box. That same night Brian May was there sitting in the box opposite. What a bonus!
I then went to see WWRY in Melbourne, then back to London a year later and saw it again in the Dominion Theatre and since then I have been to see it twice in Sydney which is where I now live. That makes 5 times.
WWRY has now sadly finished in Sydney and is now bound for Japan. I plan to be back in London again next October to visit relatives and will definitely be going to see my favourite show once again.
I play the CD from the show all the time. I just love it. I of course also have all the Queen CD’s which I also think are the best. I wear my WWRY t-shirts with pride.
How blessed are we to be able to hear such fantastic music and go to such a wonderful show full of such very talented people.
Well done Queen and Ben Elton.
Thanks for such great music,
Regards, Jill from Sydney, Australia

There is a DVD floating around ebay. I have seen it, but have not been able to catch it live yet. Which makes me sad. I thought it was brilliant and I’m not a fan of musicals at all. I’m a film maker and never got into watching a lot of theatre, but this piece has changed my mind. I’ve always liked queen, but never had a love, after watching this…i ran out and bought a few CD’s myself. The DVD copy that we have is a very good copy w/ multiangles, and great audio. My girlfriends dad had bought it so I’m not sure exactly where from on ebay. If any of you are interested enough shoot me an email and I could probably find out. mcleid@yahoo.com.

I’ve been looking everywhere for a DVD of ‘We will rock you’ as i’ve never seen it before yet i’ve heard the soundtrack and love it, i can’t stop listening to it. I know i’ll never get the chance to see it live, so the next best thing is to see the DVD. i was just wondering if there is even a DVD out there of the show. And if it was of the show in london at the dominion theatre it would be even better, as i know Tony Vincent was a lead role in one of these shows and he is my idol . lol .

Hi there,
I’ve just read your note on Symphonious, and I have been looking to buy the DVD of the we will rock you show in London for my husband. My husband plays the drums, and was asked to do a smaller verson of the show with other profesional musians who are teachers at Worcester College in the UK, and was a sell out every night!
I would love to get him the DVD if I can.
Hope you can help!

Well I Went to see we will rock you as a birthday pressie from my girlfriend on 30 th August in London. *Years after my parents started nagging me to attend and i was AMAZED.
I love the queen songs - I grew up listening to them but thought the way they interlinked with the story was absolutely astounting. I have been to theatre shows before but never sung - but that night - I was suprised how much I sang - even more suprised I still have my girlfriend for my singing attributes. Lol.
I have been listening to the soundtrack loads since then and I really want a dvd of it now. Dont want a copy though so if anyone knows anything please contact me.
