Agreed, commenting does tend to drive traffic to your blog because, assuming you comment well, it shows you're knowledgable about a particular topic or set of topics. It's not specific to A-lister blogs though, any blog that regularly has comments tends to get people viewing the comments and will drive traffic.

I have been fortunate to receive traffic just posting comments in Robert's blog. I just started to blog seriously a couple of weeks ago, and some of my best days have been because of comments and links to articles I have added to Scobleizer.com - I don't have huge amounts of traffic, so 50 referrals is a big deal.

I have sent Robert email on a couple of tips - one tip I sent, and then noticed he had already posted on it.
Step 1 - check the blogger's post that you are sending tips to, to ensure they haven't already covered it.

I am unable to tell you about a direct link from an A-lister, but I have noticed writing good comments, and then having a link to a post that is on topic will generate views.

Yeah I've known people who've seen a lot of traffic come from you - I was actually very surprised that I essentially got none. It really highlights how much people skim through their feeds. If your post doesn't hit on the right topics quickly they just skip right past.

Agreed. It depends when I link to you, and the headline you've used. People can tell when it's noise and when it's something valuable. I just got a note from someone that said he got about 500 visits from my link blog. But I totally agree with your sentiment here.
